Most people who ask me about AI visibility tools do not need the expensive one yet. They need to answer a simpler question first: when someone asks ChatGPT or Perplexity about my category, do I show up at all?
Otterly.ai is one of the cleanest ways to answer that question without spending real money.
Let me get the conflict of interest out of the way in the first breath, because it matters for how you read the rest. I build LLM Pulse, which competes with Otterly. So take my praise as praise that cost me something, and read my criticism knowing I have a horse in this race. I have tried to be fair. Where Otterly is the better call, I will say so plainly.
What Otterly actually is
Otterly.ai is an AI search visibility tracker. You give it a set of prompts, the kind of questions real people type into ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and the rest, and it tells you whether your brand shows up in the answers, how you rank against competitors, and which sources the models cite.
It was one of the earlier tools in this space, and it shows in the right way: the product feels considered rather than rushed to market to catch a trend.
The thing that sets it apart is not a feature list. It is the price of admission and the honesty of what it shows you.
The $29 entry that nobody else really matches
Here is the pricing, as of July 2026. Prices in this category move constantly, so check the current numbers before you buy anything.
| Plan | Price/mo | Prompts |
|---|---|---|
| Lite | $29 | 15 |
| Standard | $189 | 100 |
| Premium | $489 | 400 |
Unlimited team members on every tier, which is the correct decision and one the whole category is slowly converging on.
That $29 Lite plan is the honest cheapest entry into AI visibility tracking that I know of. Fifteen prompts is not much, but it is enough to answer the real question: am I invisible, present, or winning on the handful of queries that actually matter to my business. For a solo founder or a small local business, fifteen well chosen prompts covers more ground than you would think.
I want to be precise here, because cheap tools usually hide the catch. Otterly's catch is mild. Some of the newer AI engines are add-ons on the lower tiers rather than included, so if you specifically need every model on day one, price it out before committing. But nobody is pretending $29 buys you the enterprise product, and that honesty is refreshing.
What Otterly is genuinely good at
It shows you the actual outputs. This is the feature I would pay for. Otterly captures screenshots of the real AI answers, so you are not staring at a "visibility score" and taking it on faith. You see the sentence where you got mentioned, or the answer where a competitor got the recommendation and you did not. That closes the gap between a dashboard number and a decision you can act on.
The keyword and prompt research is real work, not a gimmick. Otterly does AI keyword research and prompt intent volume, so instead of guessing which questions people ask the models, you get data to build your prompt set from. Most tools make you invent your prompts blind. This is a genuine head start, especially if you are new to GEO and do not yet have an instinct for how people phrase things to an AI.
Rounding out the useful set:
- A Brand Visibility Index and domain ranking, so you can watch the trend, not just today's snapshot.
- Link citation tracking, so you can see which of your pages the models actually pull from.
- GEO audits and coverage across 50+ countries.
And the part that will please the technical crowd: Otterly ships an MCP server, a public API, and a Claude skill. That means you can pull your visibility data straight into Claude or into your own scripts instead of living inside their dashboard. For a tool at this price, shipping an MCP server is not something I take for granted. It signals a team that understands where this is all heading.
If you had never used one of these tools and asked me where to spend your first $29, I would not talk you out of Otterly.
Where it runs out of road
Now the honest part, and the reason this is a review and not an ad.
Otterly is a visibility tracker. It is very good at telling you where you appear and where you do not. What it does not do, at least not to the depth some of you will need, is tell you what that visibility is worth in traffic and revenue, or give you the full spread of models and agency machinery that a bigger operation needs.
Model breadth is the first ceiling. As with several tools at the affordable end, some engines are add-ons on the lower tiers. If you are running a multi-market brand and you need Claude, Copilot, Grok and the rest tracked side by side from the start, the total cost and setup deserve a careful look before you assume the sticker price is the real price.
Depth is the second. Screenshots and a visibility index answer "am I mentioned". They are less built for "what is this actually doing to my business". If your next question is about conversions, sales attribution, sentiment shifts over time, or which AI crawler hit which page, you are asking a tool like Otterly to do a job it was not primarily designed for.
None of this is a knock. It is a tool that knows what it is. The trouble only starts if you outgrow it and keep pretending you have not.
When to graduate, and to what
This is where I have to be careful, because the honest answer involves the tool I build.
If Otterly answers your questions, stay. Genuinely. Paying for depth you do not use is how software budgets rot. A local business or a solo founder tracking a tight set of prompts should not "upgrade" to something heavier just because it exists.
You have outgrown Otterly when your questions change shape. Three signals, in my experience:
- You stop asking "am I mentioned" and start asking "what is this mention worth in visits, conversions and sales."
- You need more models tracked as standard, not as a line of add-ons.
- You are an agency, and you need to hand each client a clean, branded report without your vendor's logo on it.
That third one is where the affordable trackers, Otterly included, tend to stop, and it is a big part of why I built LLM Pulse the way I did.
Where LLM Pulse fits, said straight
LLM Pulse starts at 49 €/month with public pricing, no demo call to see a number. That is more than Otterly's $29, and I am not going to pretend the entry price is the reason to pick it. If price is your only axis, Otterly wins that one, and I have already said so.
What you get for the difference is depth in the exact places Otterly stops.
- Real AI traffic analytics. Connect GA4 or Plausible and see the actual visits, conversions and sales that ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini send you. Not just mentions, money. This is the jump from "am I visible" to "is it working".
- Five core models on every plan (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews), with Claude, Copilot, Grok, DeepSeek and Meta AI available to add. More models without an enterprise call.
- Full white-label for agencies. Your logo, your colours, your domain, zero LLM Pulse branding, a separate project per client, plus a Looker Studio connector and REST API for reports. This is the piece the cheap trackers do not do.
- Reputation and sentiment, showing the exact words the models use to describe you and flagging when the framing is wrong or negative.
- A hosted MCP server with 45+ tools over OAuth, no API key, included on every plan and even the trial.
Unlimited seats on every plan, a 14-day trial, and yes, we also ship an MCP server, because on that specific point Otterly and I agree about where this goes.
I will hold to the honest line: if you want the cheapest credible way to start, Otterly is a fine answer and I will not talk you out of it. If your questions have already moved from mentions to money, from one market to many, or from your own brand to a roster of clients, that is the moment LLM Pulse earns the higher price.
The rest of the field, briefly
To place Otterly properly, here is the neighbourhood.
Peec AI is strong for teams and agencies, from around $89/month, with daily tracking, sentiment and good regional and multi-language competitor comparison by country. Note that it includes three models and charges per model for extras, so price the full set.
Profound is the enterprise heavyweight, with the deepest data, SOC 2, SSO, on-prem and an API. There is no public pricing and it is demo-led, and it is aimed at large brands. If you are a Fortune 500, that depth is real and worth the process.
And if you already pay for Ahrefs or Semrush, both now bundle AI-visibility features (Brand Radar and the AI Toolkit). Shallower than any specialist here, but already in your subscription, which for some readers is the whole argument.
The bottom line
Otterly.ai is the tool I would hand someone who has never checked whether AI mentions them and does not want to spend money to find out. It is honest about what it shows, it shows you the real answers instead of a mystery score, and the $29 door is genuinely the lowest honest one in the category.
It stops being enough the day you need to know what the mention was worth, not just that it happened. Start where the door is cheapest. Just do not confuse checking your visibility with knowing what it pays.
