Let me get the conflict of interest out of the way in the first paragraph, because you deserve it.

I build LLM Pulse, which competes with Profound. So read this with the appropriate skepticism. My promise back to you: I will tell you exactly where Profound is the better choice, because it often is, and I would rather you trust the parts where I say pick someone else.

Profound is the tool most people name first when the conversation turns to tracking how brands show up in AI answers. That reputation is earned, not hype. So this is not a hit piece. It is a fair look at what Profound does very well, where the friction is real, and who is honestly better served somewhere else.

What Profound actually is

Profound tracks how your brand appears when people ask AI assistants questions. ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google's AI answers and the rest. You feed it the prompts your buyers actually use, and it tells you whether you show up, how often, next to which competitors, and which sources the models are citing to build those answers.

That last part matters more than the mention count. Knowing that Reddit and three trade publications are feeding the model its opinion of your category is the difference between guessing and having a plan.

Where Profound pulls ahead is depth. This is not a dashboard someone shipped in a weekend to ride the GEO wave.

Their Prompt Volumes data is the headline feature. Instead of you guessing which questions people ask AI, Profound works from actual query data, so you are optimizing for prompts that carry real demand rather than the ten you thought of in a meeting. Very few tools in this category have anything comparable.

On top of that they have moved hard into the parts of AI search that are becoming commerce. Shopping visibility, agent tracking, and analytics around how AI agents behave when they act on a user's behalf. If your worry is not just "am I mentioned" but "will an AI agent put me in the cart," Profound is thinking about the same thing you are.

The enterprise muscle is the real story

Here is where I will happily hand Profound the win.

If you are a large brand with a security team, a procurement process and a legal review that takes six weeks, Profound is built for you and most of the category is not.

SOC 2. SSO. On-prem deployment options. A proper API. These are not features you notice in a demo and forget. They are the things that decide whether a tool is allowed inside a big company at all. A lot of AI visibility startups, mine included, are still working through that enterprise checklist. Profound is already through it.

For a Fortune 500 brand, Profound is the safe and serious pick, and I would tell a client that to their face.

The data depth compounds here too. When you have twenty stakeholders, several competitors and multiple markets, the richer dataset stops being a nice-to-have and starts being the reason the tool survives its first quarterly review.

Now the friction, because there is friction

None of this is free of trade-offs.

Profound has no public pricing. You cannot go to the site, look at a table, and know what you would pay. It is demo-led. You book a call, you talk to sales, and a number comes back shaped by your size and needs.

I understand why enterprise companies do this. I also think it is a genuine cost to you as a buyer. It slows everything down and it filters out anyone who just wanted to try the thing this afternoon.

On the actual numbers, I will be careful because I do not have an official price sheet in front of me and I am not going to invent one. Enterprise deployments have been referenced in the low thousands of dollars per month, and there have been mentions of smaller signal tiers around $99 and $399. Treat all of that as directional, not gospel, and confirm it with Profound directly.

The honest summary: Profound is not priced for a solo consultant or a small marketing team, and it is not trying to be. That is a positioning choice, not a flaw. It just means a lot of readers of this blog are not the target.

The second piece of friction is simpler. For most companies, Profound is more tool than the job requires. If you have five competitors, one market and a marketing team of three, the Prompt Volumes and agent analytics are horsepower you will not use. You would be paying enterprise money to look at a fraction of the product.

Who should look elsewhere, and at what

If you read the section above and quietly recognized yourself, good. Here is where I would send you.

If you want public pricing, more models and no sales call

This is the LLM Pulse pitch, and I will keep it honest.

I built LLM Pulse for exactly the person Profound is not built for: the consultant, the agency, the founder, the in-house team that wants to start this week without a procurement dance.

Pricing is public and starts at 49 €/month. No demo required to see the number. The plans, as of September 2026:

Plan Price/mo Prompts Notable additions
Starter 49 € 50 5 competitors, core models
Growth 99 € 150 Sentiment, AI traffic analytics, agent
Scale 299 € 450 Reputation, GEO testing, ChatGPT Shopping, REST API, Data Studio connector
Higher tiers 543 € / 1.086 € more then custom Enterprise

Prices change, so check llmpulse.ai before you commit anything.

Two things I am genuinely proud of. Every plan has unlimited seats, no per-seat fee, which matters the moment you want your whole team or your client in the account. And you get five core models on every plan (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews), with Claude, Copilot, Grok, DeepSeek and Meta AI available to add. Getting that many models without an enterprise call is still unusual.

There is also a hosted MCP server with 45+ tools over OAuth, no API key needed, included on every plan and even on the 14-day trial. You pull your visibility data straight into Claude or ChatGPT and ask questions of it. I have not seen many competitors ship that.

Where I will not oversell: if you need SOC 2, on-prem and the deepest query-volume dataset on the market today, Profound is ahead of me on that, and I am not going to pretend otherwise.

If you run an agency and need white-label

This is worth its own line. LLM Pulse does full white-label: your logo, your colours, your domain, zero LLM Pulse branding, a separate project per client, plus a Looker Studio connector and REST API for client reporting, and an affiliate program. If reselling AI visibility to clients under your own brand is the business, that is built for you.

If you mainly want it cheap and honest

Look at Otterly.ai. Their Lite plan is $29/month for 15 prompts, Standard is $189 for 100, Premium is $489 for 400 (as of September 2026, confirm before buying). It shows real screenshots of AI outputs, a Brand Visibility Index, citation tracking and AI keyword research, and it ships an MCP server and a public API too. For someone who wants to dip a toe in without spending much, it is the most honest cheap entry I know.

If you already pay for an SEO suite

If your budget is already committed to Ahrefs Brand Radar or Semrush's AI toolkit, start there before buying anything new. These features are shallower than the specialists, but they are already inside your subscription, and "good enough and already paid for" beats "excellent and another invoice" more often than tool reviewers admit. Peec AI is also strong if you are a team or agency wanting daily tracking and per-country competitor comparison, though note extra models there are paid add-ons priced per model.

So, is Profound worth it?

For the right buyer, yes, without much hesitation.

If you are a large brand that needs the deepest data, real security compliance and a tool that will pass a procurement review, Profound is the serious choice and the friction of a sales call is a rounding error against your budget. I would recommend it to that reader with a straight face.

For almost everyone else, the honest answer is that Profound is more than you need at a price you cannot see until you have spent an hour on a call. That is not a knock on the product. It is a mismatch between a premium tool and a non-premium job.

Buy the tool that fits the job, not the one with the biggest logo wall. Profound has earned its reputation. Just make sure the reputation you are paying for is one you will actually use.
